Tomorrow, American Welfare: Reclaiming the Dream for All of U.S. will be released.
This afternoon, I feel a mix of gratitude and anticipation.
Gratitude for the people who encouraged this work, challenged my thinking, and stayed curious. And gratitude for the public servants, community leaders, and advocates who consistently show what it looks like to design with people rather than around them.
Anticipation because I can’t wait to share this book and hear what it sparks for you. I wrote it to start conversations, not to provide definitive answers: a book that connects history to current design choices, and today’s realities to what we can build next.
American Welfare is an invitation to look beyond policy debates to the stories that shape our systems, and to the design choices that can either ration opportunity or expand it. It’s also an invitation to reclaim “welfare” as well-being: how people are faring, and what it takes to build the conditions for stability, belonging, and possibility.
As you read it, I’d love to hear: what would it look like to treat well-being as democratic infrastructure in your community?
Tune in tomorrow for my launch video.
